HUNDREDS of excited soccer fans started streaming to Rosemore Stadium public viewing area in George from early morning (11 June 2010) for the george mayor mercia draghoender with miss georgina mascot and saps brass band at rosemore pva launch george mayor mercia draghoender with miss georgina mascot and saps brass band at rosemore pva launchofficial opening and viewing of the first match of the 2010 Fifa World Cup between Bafana Bafana and Mexico and later the France, Uruguay match.
The excitement in George was palpable as fans woke early eager to herald the day with their vuvuzelas.

The official opening of the Eden District public viewing area at Rosemore Stadium in George started with George mayor Mercia Draghoender leading a parade through the town to the stadium.

The colourful parade was made up of drum majorettes, Boy’s brigade and SAPS brass bands, pupils from Heidedal primary school, life size mascots, floats decked with the participating teams’ flags, Mr and Miss George 2010 sitting on their thrones, as well as a motorcade of fire engines and other municipal vehicles.

The George municipal choir sang the National Anthem accompanied by the SAPS brass band at the stadium at the start of the launch ceremony.
Deputy Mayor of George Castro Leholo welcomed all municipalities, mayors and officials and thanked province, as well as Fifa and Safa for their assistance in making the PVA a reality.

“The Rosemore Fanjol will enable people from all areas of Eden District to unite in a spirit of patriotism and put our energy behind Bafana Bafana to ensure that they do us proud in their game today against Mexico.”

By early afternoon buses were starting to arrive from outlying areas and thousands of soccer fans were streaming into the stadium eager to enjoy the ongoing festivities and the first and second matches of the World Cup.
