THE Airports Company of SA (Acsa) has given the assurance that repairs to the George Airport runway will be completed “well ahead” of the Fifa World Cup.

Acsa spokesman Solomon Makgale said yesterday work on the runway overlay had begun and was progressing well. “It is scheduled to be completed some time next week.”

A runway resurfacing was recommended by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) based on its finding that a sealant applied to the landing strip caused an SA Airlink jet crash at George Airport on December 7 last year.
